Ana Sokolović is internationally known for her imaginative and rhythm-driven music. Her repertoire ranges from critically acclaimed operas and orchestra works to powerful solos and chamber pieces.
The Quebec-based composer is an important figure in contemporary music. Sokolović’s music is infused with Balkan rhythms and influenced by multiple artistic disciplines. Some of her accolades include the Dora Mavor Moore Award for “Outstanding New Opera” for Svadba and two back-to-back JUNO Awards for “Classical Composition of the Year.” In 2019 the award was for “Golden Slumbers Kiss Your Eyes” and in 2020, for her violin concerto “Evta.”
Her four operas have been performed internationally, including at the Royal Opera House, the San Francisco Opera and Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. She takes the 4th spot on the list of the most performed composers of the decade (2010-19). For more opera statistics, visit Operabase.
